Yesterday in class we practiced working from a seated guard position. I taught a few sweeps and takedowns from this position. It never ceases to amaze me how the same principals that apply to stand-up techniques, also apply on the ground. Once you wrap your brain around this, it really opens up your game.

From a self-defense point of view, this guard can be used if you've been knocked to the ground and are making your way back to your feet but don't have time to make it all the way up. Thanks for sharing your video! :)
Good instructional video!
Thanks for the positive comments.
Seeing the similarities between working a seated guard and working a stand up game was a big revelation for me, and it's a revelation that I wish I had had much earlier in my grappling career (aren't we always wishing we had figured things out sooner)?
Marcelo really opened my eyes to it. The principles are the same: get inside of your opponent, and disrupt his base. Arm drags and single legs are great for this, and the butterfly guard and the x-guard are right there as well.
