The Newest addition to our ever growing Dojo family, Tinguinha Black Belt Gregory Lawson

The Roseberry's Team Jiu-jitsu Fighter would like to introduce our newest addition to the Family, Mr. Gregory Lawson! I personally have had the chance to learn from and randori with Mr. Lawson and I can attest to his knowledge and skill in the beautiful art of Jiu-Jitsu. Originally a Lincolnite, Mr. Lawson recently returned home after attending graduate school in California. After having spent some time with him, I asked him to write up a short bio introducing himself to all of our readers out there. So here's a bit about Mr. Lawson :

Gregory Lawson began training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2001 in college. Greg received his blue and purple belts from Saulo Ribeiro while he was in college. He lived in Colorado from 2004-2005, where he trained at Easton Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. In the fall of 2005, Greg moved to Southern California to pursue a Masters in geology and began training with Mauricio ‘Tinguinha’ Mariano. Greg has been a student of Tinguinha ever since, earning his Black Belt in March of 2011. In addition to his black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Greg holds a brown belt in Judo. Greg has trained in Brazil and Japan, as well as all over the US. He holds a Bachelors degree in Geology from Oberlin College, and a Master’s degree in Geological sciences from UC Riverside. Although he only occasionally competes, Greg’s tournament credentials include taking 2nd place in the 2005 Pancrase USA North American Submission Wrestling Championships (men’s advanced welterweight division), reaching the quarterfinals in the 2006 Pans (purple belt adult middleweight), and going 1-1 in the 2007 BJJ World Championships (brown belt middleweight).

Please stop into one of our Jiu-jitsu classes and take this wonderful opportunity to meet a great Jiu-Jitsu Fighter, instructor, and friend.

I think it's really exciting to have Greg at our school! He is a nice guy and a great instructor, with a wealth of knowledge. I feel honored that he chose the Roseberry's family, and I look forward to all I can learn from him.

While I don't train at Roseberry's, we meet them often in competition. I'm also excited to see such a well qualified BJJ instructor in Lincoln. I look forward to an increase in the already strong competition that Roseberry students have brought to the BJJ circuit here in Nebraska. This is is win-win situation for everyone here.

Welcome.

what was the extent of your training in Brazil and Japan, Greg? that sounds like a lot of fun.

I took two trips to Japan-neither was for training, but I had a chance to train a bit each time while I was there.

Brazil, on the other hand, was planned as a training trip. I went down for 3 weeks between my junior and senior years of college, and trained almsot daily with Saulo Ribeiro at Gracie Tijuca.
