Roy Dean posted this video on his blog the other day and I just couldn't pass up sharing it as well. As Mr. Dean wrote, "Beautiful grappling from Derek Wojcik, in a fusion of wrestling, Judo, BJJ, and Sambo. Excellent control, too. Watch out for this kid, he’s got a bright future!"
When I watched this, I thought of the wrestlers we have training with us. Can you believe that all of their wrestling coaches don't want them to practice Jiu-Jitsu or Judo?

I like the de ashi harai at 1:00 and 3:30. Great fusion of wrestling, judo, jiu-jitsu, and sambo. I am extremely impressed with this kid.
i love how he uses the victor roll as a takedown. very impressive!
an endless arsenal. i'll bet he intimidates his opponents.
Yes, Brent, I agree. Much like you intimidate opponents with your endless arsenal of witty banter and calming demeanor. Then you crush the life out of them.
although i do wrong, i do not the wrong for which i am accused.
I like that he doesn't slam down his opponents when he could really hurt them. He seems to have the "art" side of competition. I hope he is working on his stand-up too.
For such a young kid to figure out how to use jiu-jitsu almost seamlessly in wresting is awesome to see. He has such a great understanding of body mechanics as well. Coming from a wrestling background it was hard to translate what I knew into Jui-jitsu at first but as time went on I think it helped me in body control and such. That was a great find Conan!
Big Andy
wrestling definitely helped me out with my jits.
Ah, to be young again! What an athlete this kid is. I agree with the intimidation factor, a few of his opponents kind of looked like it was just a matter of time before he ran them through. The point Ken brought up about the no slamming also plays a huge part in intimidation. He is basically able to physically pick the opponent apart without any damage, kind of to say, "Imagine if I did slam you? No getting up after that one!" Great find Conan!
Great video. Awesome display of some high level techniques.
Really enjoyed that, thanks!
I watched some of his judo matches and he was dominating. Any idea what dojo he trains at?
