I Don't Wanna Die!

It happens every time you feel yourself getting choked out.

Yet this time that feeling came over me as I heard the ring of my phone. I picked it up and I knew the voice on the line. He said, "Brent, you're coming with me, we're going on a high speed chase."

Next thing I know, I'm in the passenger's seat and we're flying down a dirt road. He fills me in on the details. We're going to catch some drug dealers. I'm scared to death. I don't wanna die.

We race down the dark road, reaching 70 mph and then some. We reach the house and to the surprise of both of us, that annoying Josh kid who lived next door 20 years ago is in the back seat. The boss looks at me with a very annoyed look on his face. I know he doesn't want Josh there, and neither do I. We have work to do. He looks at me, with a serious look on his face and says, "I have a gun Brent, and I'll kill him. I'll kill him."

All of a sudden we see the drug dealers rummaging in the old house and we jump out of the car, breaking towards the house. I don't know why I came, only the boss has a gun. What help am I going to be? He runs toward the house, gun in hand. Josh goes on ahead too. I hesitantly follow, thinking to myself, "I don't wanna die!"

Then, I hear a beeping sound that repeats over and over. I open my eyes and it's time to get up.

(Anyone here like Joseph who was sold into Egypt? I need a dream interpreter)

I get ready for the day and head to work. At 3:30 I leave and head to the dojo to train. The boss is there, kind and considerate in his teaching, not wanting to kill anyone, whether it be drug dealers or annoying kids. We drill, then we do open mat. The first time he catches me in a Kimura . . . well, he Kimura'd both arms, to be honest-seriously. Both arms were tied up. I don't know how that happens.

We roll again. I keep him on his back for a few moments before I get distracted in my attempts to protect my arms and he catches my neck. All of a sudden, I think to myself, "I don't wanna die!" and I tap.

I often say this to myself when I'm in trouble (or simply when Aaron Hogg has me in side control). There is always a feeling of impending death when you are being choked . . .

Von Flue Choke

Since we've been working on the Darce Choke, and different variations of it, I thought this choke would fit in nicely with the theme.

Brent, recognize that man in the middle?

I had no idea I would be seeing the legend this weekend at the Strikeforce show in St. Louis. The show itself was incredible, but the who's who of MMA stars both inside and outside the ring was amazing. Fedor was definitely the top surprise, but a close second was Anderson Silva and Big Nog cornering their teammate, "Feijao Cavalcante." Andrei Arlovski was in the co-main, and got caught by Bret Rogers early. I hope he seriously thinks about another career other than boxing, his chin was glass last night. Shields and Lawler, Diaz and Smith, great fights. Josh Barnett and Tim Silva were in attendance as well as Affliction co-owner, Tom Atencio. It was kind of funny, we noticed him walking right past us on his way back from the concession stand and I couldn't help but remark to my wife, "Now if that was Dana White, he would never be able to leave ringside." It's kind of cool that this guy co-owns a multimillion dollar company and he still gets his own hot dogs at shows. Anyway, this is stretching the Jiu Jitsu aspect, since the only real submission of the night was Jake Shield's Guillotine choke on Robbie Lawler, which was technically one of the smoothest chokes I have seen as a finisher. I could go on and on, but I will keep some of it for class!
