Kuzushi

In Monday night's class we went over the principal of kuzushi (off balancing), and how the same principals apply in ground fighting just as they do standing up, as in Judo.

In Judo, one fighter off balances the other in order to obtain a throw. In Jiu-Jitsu, one fighter can off balance the other in order to obtain a sweep or reversal on the ground.

We practiced two basic reversals from underside side-control, and then explored a few variations of Kuzushi to affect the same reversal. Here is a video of some of what we practiced.

Kuzushi is the Japanese word for unbalancing an opponent.
