As a side note, after all of my previous injuries, I've come to realize and accept that they're all my fault, even the infamous heel kick to my eyebrow from a white belt. It's my responsibility to protect myself at all times, tap when it hurts, and get taken down when my training partner is doing what he's supposed to be doing. If I end up defending past the point of my physical ability, I have only myself to blame. And of course there's this whole, "I'm not getting any younger" thing I got going on.
My wife thinks I'm crazy for doing Jiu-Jitsu, but has given up all hope that I'll be quiting any time soon. Even so, everytime I get injured, she asks me, "So are you going to quit now?" As the hour is late and she's asleep right now, she is completely unaware of this recent injury.
The ER doc said the fracture wasn't too bad. Basically what happened was the tendon got stretched, but instead of the tendon breaking, the bone it was attached to fractured. The doc said this was a better scenario than the tendon itself breaking. The prescribed treatment will be similar to treating a sprain, so no surgery. The downside is that I was issued the dreaded blue medical shoe to wear around for the next month while the bone heels.

ouch
Good luck with the recovery.
Sorry to hear about the injury. I think you must have tempted fate last week when, after catching my own toe in the mat, you said you had never suffered a toe injury. That sucks. Hope it heals quick.
I met your mom last week, and the first thing she said after learning I train Jiu-Jitsu was "So, has Conan gotten hurt since you've been there?" I said "Not that I know of, does he get hurt a lot?" She said "Yes, he gets hurt all the time in that Jiu-Jitsu, I don't know why he does it." LOL...they just don't understand! Hope you heal fast.
ouch! that sux. I broke my finger pretty badly over a month ago when it got caught in someone's gi and its taking its time to heal. Unfortunately, without "the jitsu" (as my GF calls it) I am starting to get fat.
Thank you for your words of encouragement, everyone. Of course I won't be doing any grappling for some time, but I should be back in the dojo by the end of the week. I'll just have to put my philosophy of "leading by example" on hold for awhile. I promise the warm-up drills won't start getting out of hand.
'Spose now would be a bad time to point out that as you are aging and injuries increasing, it might be a good time to purchase some accident/injury insurance!! That little broken foot would have paid you around $750-$1000...woulda made a nice Harley payment!! Alas, you know where to find me if you so desire!! See ya for the "big show" Saturday night - I'm calling it right now...Frank Mir will be victorious!!
Sorry to hear about your injury Conan. Hope it heals soon.
Thanks, Bakari. It's getting better everyday and healing faster than expected.
