Continuing with our recent Fedor fetish, below is interesting news as reported by MMAFighting.com, along with other sources I've consulted. This is something I have thought about for a while. How will he do? I have no idea. This is very, very interesting.
It is also reported that Fedor's Red Devil teammate, Gegard Mousasi (Dream Middleweight Grand Prix champ) will also compete. He also has grappling credentials. Watch his Dream bout with Jacare to see how effective his guard was against one of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu's finest.
I, for one, am greatly anticipating how this will go down!
Fedor Emelianenko to compete at ADCC 2009

Fedor Emelianenko, widely considered to be the number one heavyweight in the world, will tangle with the world's best grapplers when he enters the ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championship next year in Abu Dhabi, ADCC News announced today.
Fedor carries with him a world-class background in the Russian martial art of Sambo. Although he's arguably more known for his vicious ground and pound, Fedor has finished his last five MMA opponents with submission holds.
2008 DREAM Middleweight Grand Prix champion Gegard Mousasi was also announced for the tournament.
The ADCC, which takes place every two years, is the world's most prestigious grappling tournament.

This is awesome news! What better venue to really put himself out there to test his skills.
BTW, mid 60's in sunny San Diego vs. low 30's here in lovely Lincoln. Where would you rather be?
Watch out ADCC! I am soooooo excited to see how this goes down. ADCC is probably my favorite grappling tournaments to watch. AWESOME!!!
i would actually rather be in Lincoln right now. i'm not enjoying the area, just a bunch of stupid, worthless meetings. it feels much warmer than 60s.
all i've ever really wanted in life was to train jiu jitsu. is that too much for a man to ask for?
do you guys think he'll be competitive? i don't see many guys being able to control him, particularly on the feet with his extensive judo skills. yet is he as technical on the ground as some of the world's best jiu jitsu players?
also, gegard mousasi is also competing. anyone see his guard against jacare in the dream grand prix final? awesome ground game!
Without a doubt, Fedor will have his work cut out for him, but he is afterall a world class Sambo and MMA fighter. Fedor has every chance of winning and I predict that's just what he'll do.
I've been reading some of the forums and am amazed at some of the comments about how Fedor won't be able to hold his own against the best grapplers, as if his technical ground game is in question.
Lest we forget, we are talking about Fedor here.
Origin of Fedor
And I did check out the Mousasi vs Jacare fight...very technical ground game and a nice win.
It will be interesting to see how he does. His ground game is awesome, but it will be interesting to see how he does without his ground and pound. him vs mark hunt keeps coming to mind. And Matt lindland's takedown that was stopped by the ropes.
Garrett,
yes, he grabbed the rope briefly . . . but someone else did too, in order to get leverage for the clinch:

yes, i must defend my hero. my feelings are hurt :P . . .
Are Mousasi and Fedor still competing in ADCC 2009? Do you know? There was an announcement last year but now they are not on the participant lists.
John,
i've been searching around because the tourney is next week. and looking at the competition, i think Fedor would win the HW division. the toughest jj guy on there is Werdum, whom fedor would massacre him on the standup/takedown game and would be able to defend subs on the ground.
but as far as i know, he and Mousasi aren't in it anymore. i'll keep checking.
